SmartPak, a rapidly growing online retailer based in Plymouth, MA, has an immediate opening for a Director of Social Media Strategy. Founded in 1999, SmartPak has grown into a leading brand serving our target consumer, the active and engaged equestrian competitor. We’ve gotten big for our breeches (in a good way) and current annual revenues are in the neighborhood of 75 million, with plenty of room for growth ahead. We love our customers and they love us back.

We got our start as a health brand, with our proprietary SmartPaks supplement system, but have evolved into much more than an equine health company (though we are admittedly a bit wonkish on health). Now, we sell everything a rider might need for the care and enjoyment of their horse – saddles, bridles, clothing, etc. Many of us are riders ourselves, but riding skills and horse ownership are not required. We also have rock stars, cyclists, skiers, yogis, artists, and just plain technology enthusiasts who love pushing the ecommerce envelope to the surprise and delight of our customers (we’re also technology geeks).

Come, join us! We already have over 180K Facebook fans, imagine what we can do once we get you on-board. And, we have some great benefits you won’t find just anywhere– dog-friendly workplace, lunchtime workouts, and many more.

Core Duties/Responsibilities:

  • OWN all things social and new media at SmartPak. Put your entrepreneurial hat on and view social as your own business within our business. We want to be considered a social leader well beyond the equine audience we serve. Drive us to the forefront of all enthusiast communities.
  • Work closely with our VP of Marketing to leverage existing partnerships and win the hearts and minds of our customers – we want to be way more than just a place to buy equestrian gear.
  • Oversee and manage complex social media/digital projects through to implementation and measurement.
  • Work with junior staff to ensure daily, weekly and monthly goals are being met and exceeded by being their manager, mentor and partner in the pursuit of excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with the media planning and search marketing / SEO teams to leverage digital advertising and organic/paid promotional activities where appropriate.
  • Work with creative, UX, and technology teams to support social media asset development including social network pages, profiles, apps and widgets.
  • Work closely with our analytics team to establish reporting goals, methodologies and deliverables. Must be “quant comfortable” and P&L experience is a definite plus.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Strong expertise with social media measurement tools (beyond just Facebook and Twitter) and platforms; timely knowledge of trends and hot topics
  • Willingness to be an internal and external evangelist for social and new media.
    • A clear understanding of and passion for all marketing disciplines (traditional, new media, direct, guerilla and word of mouth).
    • Experienced leader of people and projects, often in team environments without formal reporting relationships
    • An established and well-respected online presence among industry peers and clients.
    • Ability to create brand conversations with our consumers
    • Technically competent. Need not be a hardcore coder, but hand-on knowledge of the UI design and technology that drives ecommerce websites is a plus.
    • Must bring an ability to juggle competing priorities, combined with high attention to detail, a keen sense of accountability and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
    • A demonstrated ability for strategic thinking and analysis
    • Experience with passionate consumers and enthusiast audiences is a plus, being a member of an enthusiast community yourself is an added bonus
    • Excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communications skills, including a sense of humor

Qualities:

Our company and this position favor a certain type of individual. The ideal candidate is:

  • Passionate and driven
  • Innovative problem-solver
  • Organized and able to multi-task
  • A leader, in and out of the office
  • Both a leader and a team player

Outgoing (this is a “social” role after all) and fun, but still know how to get the job done
