SmartPakers Doing What They Do – The First Annual Team SmartPak Jumper Show

By: Emmie – Assistant Store Manager

The SmartPak Store Team participated in its First Annual Team SmartPak Jumper Show at Apple Knoll Farm in Millis, MA.  Being that all of us ride horses, we thought that there wasn’t anything better for us to do after work than pack up and head to a horse show!  Despite the hot and humid summer weather, we pulled in trailer after trailer to a full parking lot of horses, dogs, and riders. The course was set and riders were already warming up as we unloaded our horses from the trailers.  As we tacked up our horses and prepared for the night’s events, lots of our fellow riders that visit us at the SmartPak store, like our Pony Club members from Jordan’s Stable in Marlboro, came by to meet our horses.  It was fun to see everyone outside of the store and meet their horses as well!

From eventers to dressage riders to hunter/jumpers, almost all of us were able to bring our horses and participate in the evening’s events.  There were a couple of us who couldn’t show for various reasons, but it sure didn’t stop us from having a great time.  We groomed for our fellow SmartPakers, set up a great spot for watching the show with food, drink, and delicious desserts, and kicked back with our cameras to watch our teammates show.   Fortunately, most of our family members have been involved with the horse community for years so parents and relatives of our team members packed lots of great homemade food for us to have and share with others.

First to show was Kristin, riding her horse Liam, a Draft cross, in the Walk, Trot, Canter Equitation Class in the indoor arena.  Although she was the first of the night, she started off the evening well for our team as she won her class!

We proceeded to the outdoor arena where jumping was taking place to watch our other teammates, including Kristin and Liam, navigate the tricky jumper course.  Kristin and Liam entered the 2’6” class where they made the course look easy!  Liam did his thing and proved his mom proud as they immediately entered into the jumpoff, and though Liam knocked down a rail, they had a great time!

Later in the evening, as the jumps got higher and higher, some of our other teammates took to the fences.  Alana and her horse Bizz, Jen and her horse Bella, and Keri and her horse Penny, all competed in the 3’0” class.

They all had awesome rounds and all qualified to enter the jumpoff.  With over thirty entries in that class, Jen, the SmartPak store manager, won the class!

At the end of the night, with the last class to go and the jumps at their highest, two of our teammates were competing in the 3’6” class.  This was a first for Jen and Bella, and they cleared all of the jumps and looked amazing!  Annie and her horse Ruby, also had a clear round and immediately entered the jumpoff and took second overall for the class.

It was a great night and though it went late into the evening, we had so much fun with everyone and our horses.  We had so much fun that we are planning another trip to Apple Knoll and invite everyone to come out and watch!
