We are here! After months of planning, preparing and organizing, the day has finally come! The first group from Tom McCutcheon Reining Horses and McQuay Stables arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky today amid a flurry of activity. The Kentucky Horse Park is buzzing as the opening day of competition for the World Equestrian Games draws near. The grounds are looking great and the lovely new stabling and Indoor Arena for the reiners look fantastic.
Tom drove his motor home, with the Hummer towing behind, with his wife Mandy and daughter Carlee. Monica Hicks, owner of Just Stitch It and WEG groom for Hollywoodstinseltown and Tim McQuay, followed in her motor home with Barb Wibbels and myself. Barb is the breeding manager at Tom McCutcheon Reining Horses and WEG groom for Gunners Special Nite and Tom. Barb and Monica have both been to the last two World Equestrian Games with Tim and Tom and are very experienced with international competition.
We pulled out of Tioga, Texas around 7PM on Sunday night and drove through the night to Lexington. We met up with Tim and Colleen McQuay at the lovely camping site at David Steffee’s beautiful After Hours Farm, which is adjacent to the Horse Park!
We had just enough time to park and hook up the motor homes before we met with our discipline representative, Vonita Bowers, to get the Team USA credentials!
Shortly thereafter, Pete Kyle pulled in with his trailer, followed by team vet John Newcomb with Tom’s horse, Gunners Special Nite. “Bailey” had traveled very well and was happy to come off the truck into the freshly matted and bedded Team USA stalls. He will handwalk today and rest up from the trip.
Craig Schmersal’s horse, Mister Montana Nic and Jonathan arrived safely and has settled in nicely. Tim’s horse, Hollywoodstinseltown, along with McQuay stablemante, Smart And Shiney for Marco Ricotta and Team Italy, will be arriving Tuesday morning!.
We are very excited for the rest of the Team to arrive! Shawn Flarida and Matt Palmer will be pulling in Tuesday!
