Welcome to the World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park! There’s so much to come but let’s start with a walk around the park with me.
The grounds are awash with people, horses, golf carts, and tents. Even if you’ve been to the Kentucky Horse Park before it’s possible to get turned around with all the new rings and tents. Luckily there are maps at every turn.
One thing I’ve been excited about in coming to the World Equestrian Games is learning about the different disciplines and watching demonstrations. I caught Raegan Knotts and Bill Rogers for their Arabian horse demo. The Park Action Arabians are stunning as is Bill’s champion ‘Aequus’ who, at 23, still has the sparkle and showmanship of an eight-year-old. He also ate up the attention from his adoring fans.
You can imagine how excited I was to catch the renowned side-saddle rider Raegan Knotts on ‘The Big Oh!’. Because of her incredible outfit of course! It turns out her habit is custom-made and modeled after a habit worn by an Empress of Austria. That’s just my cup of tea. I love the Wedgewood blue.
It won’t come as any surprise to you either that I made friends with everyone I met including Ron who got me my cheeseburger and fries for lunch. In moments we were discussing his kids and beaches along the southeastern coast. The whole feel of the Games is like that: open and friendly.
The Kentucky Horse Park looks beautiful and the weather, sunny and breezy, is in full cooperation.
I hope you’ve enjoyed our quick tour that helps give the lay of the land. I’ll see you soon for more!
