World Equestrian Games Friends (In Bronze)

The Kentucky Horse Park celebrates horses in every way including in art. In our walks around the park (up and down hills, from one side to the other and back again) there are horses in pastures, prepping in warm-up rings, and hacking across fields. There are also horses frozen in time in sculpture that capture moments we all know well.

This is perhaps the most iconic to eventers: Bruce Davidson on Eagle Lion.

But this playful and slightly naughty little one might remind you of foals you know. I love the rooster taking up the rear.

It’s hard to tire of mares and foals. These two welcome World Equestrian Games fans to the VIP Maker’s Mark tent. Now that’s a warm welcome!

Also iconic, Secretariat, whether in a photo or cast in a sculpture, seems to make everything around me go quiet. He feels like a hero and a friend all at once. I wish I could have known him though somehow this sculpture makes me feel like I’ve at least been in his presence.

Not a horse, no. But he makes me smile. Maybe tomorrow we’ll sit down and have lunch with him? He seems like he’d be good company!

The Kentucky Horse Park has opened her arms to welcome the international guests and riders to the 2010 World Equestrian Games. It truly feels like a celebration of our favorite sports as well as the horses themselves.

Hey, I'm Courtney and I write Three Days Three Ways: your vip ticket to go behind the eventing scenes. Meet your favorite Advanced Rider, find out if they’re single (fingers crossed!), get tips from top grooms, or learn what makes the sport tick.
