Staff Member: Jess R.
Department: IT
Horse: Kandida, 15 year-old Holsteiner
Discipline: Jumper/Equitation
I started riding when I was 8 years old, after begging my parents for riding lessons. They thought it’d be a passing phase but 25 years later I’m still riding and even own a small boarding facility.
I’ve owned my mare Kandida for almost a year now. She’s a been there/done that hunter/eq horse with ribbons at all the big east coast shows, from Ocala to the Catskills. She’s an amazing teacher and this past fall we placed at the Mass Hunter/Jumper Equitation Finals and Rhode Island Equitation Finals. Next year we hope to qualify for the New England Medal Finals.
Kandida’s SmartPaks
Kandida’s SmartPaks include SmartFlex Senior Herb-Free Pellets and SmartHoof Pellets.
I chose SmartFlex Senior Herb-Free Pellets because Kandida has had a long competitive career and still jumps once or twice a week. I want to keep her going strong for a long time, but since we compete at USEF shows, I need a supplement that doesn’t contain any herbs. Kandida is also a picky eater, so I needed something that came in a pelleted form. SmartFlex Senior Herb-Free Pellets were the obvious choice for us.
I chose SmartHoof Pellets because there’s nothing worse than having your training held up by a lost shoe. Kandida’s old owners mentioned that she had a history of weak, “crumbly” feet so I wanted to keep her hooves strong and healthy. SmartHoof Pellets have been the perfect fit.
Why Jess Uses SmartPaks
I buy Kandida’s supplements in SmartPaks because my barn is run as a co-op, so there are a lot of different people involved in feeding the horses. I want to make sure that Kandida is getting her supplements in the right amounts every day and SmartPaks make it easy. The automatic shipping means I never worry about running out. And since I use the SmartSupplements brand, it’s the same cost as it would be if I bought buckets.
