JMR-Sasha-Suskind-Morn-thum

First I have to tell you that I am a huge Thoroughbred fan. There is nothing with more heart! I am sure he is super fast across the ground and will be very tough to beat in jump offs. He appears to be well muscled and conditioned…

Meet Rachael and Jacob

Rachael-and-Jacob-thumb

I have had Jacob since he was a puppy. He has always had really dry, flaky skin, and had trouble growing hair. I used fish oil capsules for a few years and switched him to a high quality food, but this did not help his skin condition. Finally, 1 year ago I started him on SmartCanine Skin & Coat. I chose this because I have had great experience with SmartSupplements for my horse and really have grown to trust them…

From AAEP’s Ask the Vet: Post Colic Surgery Diet – Question #2

Lydia-handwalking-thumb

I have a 7 year old Haflinger mare – pleasure use – I’m concerned with being sure she’s receiving adequate nutrition requirements without over feeding. Currently she’s on a hay based diet with a gastric supplement and a joint supplement fed daily. She receives soaked alfalfa cubes daily in order to add supplements to her diet. She has a history of colic including surgery and a bout of colitis which landed her in the hospital for 10 days…

Isn’t Spring Wonderful?!

MH-and-Bronson-thumb

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year. The feeling of fresh and new that comes along with spring is inspirational. Horses who have been ridden in indoors all winter are fresh and sassy on their first rides outside. They get that little sparkle back in their eyes that dims a bit in the long winter months indoors…

Meet Charissa and Joel

Charissa-and-Joel-thumb

I saw a free trial for SmartOmega 3, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try it – well, I love it! After just a month, my horse’s coat started to look slick and shiny. A year later, his coat is still shiny, and now the color is deeper and richer than ever…

Pony Gaining Weight – What Do I Feed My Pony?

Pony-in-a-field-thumb

Hello. I have a large pony that is Insulin Resistant. He foundered 3 years ago – August and come to find out he’s Insulin Resistant but not Cushings. Because I caught it so quickly we were able to “cure” him and to this day he is SOUND! He hardly rotated. I noticed he was getting QUITE fat and saw a beautiful cresty neck (to which I thought I was training him SO well, and that’s why he had such a beautiful neck!) He is on a VERY strict diet – beet pulp, cinnamon, rice bran, vitamin E and salt…

Meet Libby and Hot Rockin Potential – 2012 Update

Meet-Libby-&-Sonny-thumb

Back in 2010, Libby noticed Sonny’s behavior starting to change. Normally a calm and cool show horse, Sonny seemed stressed and worried, which was really out of character. On a friend’s recommendation, Libby decided to give SmartGut a try and pretty soon Sonny was back to his old self — relaxed and confident in and out of the show ring…

From AAEP’s Ask the Vet: Adjusting My Draft Horse’s Diet

Percheron_Walking-thumb

I am in Pennsylvania and have a 6 year old, 16.2 h., athletic, Percheron x Paint/TB mare (Kit) who is an extremely easy keeper. I have had Kit for a little over a year but due to my current time constraints and the fact that she is boarded 25 miles away, I have trouble getting there consistently and thus, she is receiving very little organized exercise. She is turned out 23 hrs/day in rotated lush grassy (seasonal) pastures w/ access to the barn and plenty of water at all times…

Meet Quincy and Conquistador Chick (“Chavez”)

Quincy-Allen-thumb

I actively compete as a non-pro in the reining industry, which involves a lot of training and traveling. When I got Conquistador Chick, “Chavez”, late in his two year old year, I felt that it was important to help him cope with these stresses…

From AAEP’s Ask the Vet: Post Colic Surgery Diet

Lydia-handwalking-thumb

What would you recommend for grain/hay and/or probiotics for a 15 yr old mare that has tied up before, ulcered and just had colic surgery. Her intestines were impacted with Corn Cob bedding. She is not forming manure yet, still cow patty style, she will be home a week March 3rd. Thanks, Brenda
