The 2012 American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup is underway in Kreuth, Germany! Get the inside scoop on how things are going in this update from SmartPak customer and AQHYA President, Mark Mowbray.
Today was an amazing day! We started with a great breakfast and a team meeting. We went over what we’re hoping to accomplish while we are here as a team.
After that we had a photo shoot in the beautiful area around our hotel. We all had an interesting time doing this. We then went out and explored the town of Kreuth. Dawn and Nancy took us to the town market and an ice cream shop. (Nancy Cahill is an AQHA Professional Horseman and Coach. Dawn Forest is the Team USA Manager.)
As the day went on, we finally got to see our horses. There was a ceremony that included drawing our group of horses out of a hat. We drew the 15th group.
We then got a chance to see and meet the horses that we will be working with in the coming days. Our team took them out of their stalls and walked them around the place to get them acquainted with the group. We’re really looking forward to seeing these horses move and what their attitudes are like tomorrow.
This evening we had a huge barbecue with the other teams. We got a chance to meet them and exchange gifts with them. At first we were nervous to see how the other teams accepted us, but our nerves were calmed when everyone just interacted with such ease with the other people. They truly were very welcoming to us and even made us laugh—a lot.
We start off with cutting tomorrow! We hope to be successful, and we promise to do our best for the USA!
