Keeping up with the SmartPakers: Weekend Update – September 10, 2012

During the week, you know our life is no mystery: we are here working hard to make you happier and your horse healthier. But what do we do on the weekend, you ask? The mystery is finally revealed! Read about what SmartPakers did this past weekend and see if any of our adventures sound similar to yours…

“I had a very busy weekend! Saturday I spent the day car shopping and successfully found myself a new car! On Sunday, some friends and I went to the Great Brook Farm hunter pace in Carlisle, MA. My coworker Emily D. was there as well, and I was lucky enough to run into her and wish her luck on her run. We’re not sure we made time to be in the ribbons, but we certainly had fun and looked cute in our matching outfits! Here is a picture of us at the check-in.” – Jessica, Customer Care

“I had a very busy pony-filled weekend! My friend Jen and I took our horses, Ax and Keeper, to Old North Bridge Hunt Club’s hunter pace in Carlisle, MA at Great Brook State Park. We jumped lots of obstacles and enjoyed some brisk gallops alongside cornfields. Did I mention the weather was perfect? It was a great day.”
– Emily, Accounting

“I spent this weekend almost entirely outside. I love rock climbing and I found out recently a couple of friends of mine do, too! We decided to trek over to Quincy Quarries together and brought along my Shiba Inu/Husky, Mr. Boof. He kept a lookout from below while I tackled a vertical crack for the first time. It was SO fun and the weather could not have been more perfect!” – Cassie, Creative

“This weekend was quite a busy one! It started with a trip to the King Richard’s Faire in Carver, MA, with my boyfriend, Dylan, and fellow SmartPakers Tierney and Katie G. We enjoyed some people watching, jousting, and a mud show. After coming home, Dylan and I (well, mostly me) cleaned up our condo and started cooking some appetizers so that we could host our first game night! It was a lot of fun, and we hope to have another one again soon. We slept in Sunday, which is very rare, and I worked a few hours before we headed to the Comcast Center for a Zac Brown Band concert. The concert was a lot of fun!” – Jessica, Customer Care

“This weekend I spent a lot of time packing to move to my new apartment. To help relieve some of the stress of packing, I enjoyed taking all sorts of silly pictures of my horse, Harpur. We even gave him a little bit of sparkle! Here are a few of the many pictures of my handsome little boy!” – Jillian, Customer Care

“This weekend was my son Max’s 3rd birthday party. For the second year in a row, he requested a Winnie the Pooh cake, which I was happy to make again for him. We got lucky and had a last beautiful summer day to enjoy in the pool before we have to move on to fall. Happy Birthday, Max!” – Kristen, Finance

“After being on the go for some seriously long weekends and finals, it was great to have some down time at home on the farm! After participating in the local MHJ and RI Equitation finals on my horse Bella, we both could use a break! It was great to get out and attend the finals with Bella as she is only 5 and it was her first time out. We have been working very hard the past two years to get to where we are today! She absolutely loves her adventures off the farm to horse shows but defiantly enjoyed some TLC at home this weekend. We spent most of the weekend hacking around the vineyard located at the farm, which was a nice break. We are currently looking forward to attending some fall hunter paces as I find it’s a great way to have fun and give Bella some great exposure off property.” – Lindsey, Customer Care

“I participated in my last Drill Team performance of the season with my horse, Sam, who has been very tolerant of all my equestrian endeavors over the years! We then enjoyed a few games classes, since neither of us are cut out for Equitation or Pleasure. We can now lay claim to being the Egg & Spoon Champions of the year! Go Sam!” – Elizabeth, Customer Care

“I spent my weekend doing one of my favorite things ever—pet-sitting for a fellow SmartPaker! My buddy Sara (SmartPak’s Creative Director) took a weekend trip up to Saratoga, so I got to spend two days playing with her pup, True. We enjoyed some long walks during the day (he smelled so many fun things!) but on Saturday night we had some pretty intense weather, so we had to stay inside. As you can see in this picture, True was less than enthusiastic about the rain—what a ham!” – Sarah, Marketing

“This weekend I had some old friends come up to visit me! We had decided to go whale watching, and boy, did we pick the right day! Apparently whales like choppy water and strong winds, which were definitely in strong supply on Saturday. We were lucky enough to meet a juvenile whale named Convict who put on a show for us! By the end of the tour, the guide said that we had seen every type of behavior whales are capable of! This included jumping up out of the water, which, in whale-expert speak is called breeching. It was absolutely breathtaking to see Convict so close up and hilarious to see him showing off for the crowded boat! And, of course, we ended the day with a cup of clam chowder and some lobster rolls. A perfect New England day!”
– Jacqueline, Customer Care

“This weekend I spent a lot of time bonding with my dog Tasha who I adopted during the past week! She is some type of a large Jack Russell/Terrier mix and an absolute sweetheart. She is adjusting to life at her new home quickly and has a personality as large as her gut (Okay, so she needs to lose a few pounds. We are working on it slowly.). We went for a walk on the beach and learned that she absolutely loves water and swimming, as I got dragged into the ocean—jeans and all! Overall it was a great weekend with lots of walking and playing fetch!” – Elizabeth, Customer Care

“This weekend I ran the Plymouth “Run to the Rock” 5K with my mom. We run it each year, and it’s one of my favorite races and a great way to end the summer. I was also very excited to win 2nd in my age group and to come in 5th female overall.” – Ellen, Accounting

“After spending most of Sunday afternoon inside watching the Pats game, we decided to take a last minute trip with the corgis to Mount Wachusett to enjoy the gorgeous weather and view.” – Katherine, Merchandising

“This weekend, my husband and I celebrated our first anniversary by visiting Bar Harbor, Maine. We met up with my cousin who lives there and hiked Dorr Mountain in Acadia National Park with her and her beagle, Royce. The weather was nice and cool for hiking, but the entire mountain was encased in fog. That meant we missed out on the great views of Bar Harbor, but we did get to experience the feeling of hiking in a cloud, which was very refreshing but a little scary when you got close to the edge. On our drive back to Massachusetts, we stopped in Biddeford Pool in southern Maine to do some birding and watch the surf crashing over the rocks. It was such a cool area—I can’t wait to go back and spend more time there!” – Cathleen, Web Marketing

“This weekend, I was able to attend my barn manager’s wedding, which was my first wedding ever! It was so much fun and horses were a major theme of the event. Each table at the reception was named after each of the horses in the barn and included framed pictures of each horse that the owners were able to take home at the end (yay!). So my horse, Cocoa, had her very own table—so exciting! I was also able to witness the photo shoot they took after the ceremony with each of their horses. It was pretty cool to watch (not to mention now I have a few ideas for when I get married someday…). On Saturday I also celebrated the five year anniversary of the day I bought my girl, Cocoa. I spent most of the day with her, letting her graze and giving her a bunch of Willie Muffins (her most favorite treat ever). We had a great day and enjoyed each other’s company. We ended the day with a big horsey hug (her signature trick). Overall, a great weekend!” – Kristina, Customer Care
