Keeping up with the SmartPakers: Weekend Update – November 26, 2012

During the week, you know our life is no mystery: we are here working hard to make you happier and your horse healthier. But what do we do on the weekend, you ask? The mystery is finally revealed! Read about what SmartPakers did this past weekend and see if any of our adventures sound similar to yours…

“On Thanksgiving, I attended the opening of the Myopia Hunt Club Thanksgiving Hunt. I’ve been for the past three years, and it’s my new favorite Thanksgiving tradition.” – Sara, Creative

“We had a wonderful holiday weekend with family. While in Connecticut, my son Max had to show off how my new Ariat boots would look as full chaps. After heading home, we spent Sunday picking out a tree and decorating it. It’s one of my favorite family traditions and was even better this year because both kids were great walkers. They loved posing in the sleigh, too!” – Kristen, Finance

“This is a photo of Dr. Rachel Heart Bellini performing bodywork on Tucker the Wonder Horse (that’s Chris the Wonder Pasture Poop Picker holding). Rachel has been working on Newman for several years now, and I owe his successes in riding and driving to her integrated, holistic approach, which she calls “restorative healing.” Based now in Colorado, her website boasts acupuncture, chiropractic, and sports medicine as services, but she offers so much more. When Newman realizes she’s in the barn working on some other horse—not him—he gets downright testy!” – Dr. Lydia Gray, Staff Veterinarian

“Henry and I enjoyed the sunny weather on Thanksgiving before heading to a friend’s house! P.S. Henry got to have a stew on Thanksgiving, which was THE highlight for him!” – Tierney, Customer Care

“Did my best to offset Thanksgiving indulgences and ran a half marathon! It was my first one and overall went very well. I finished in just over 2 hours and had a great time. I should have done my research a bit more and realized that the race was on trails. The uneven terrain made for some sore legs yesterday and today, but the scenery along the river in Nashua, NH, was pretty breathtaking. I imagine I’m feeling a little like my horse does after a hard cross-country run and am using that as an excuse to relax for a few days before getting back at it next weekend.” – Colby, Marketing

“I was able to spend some quality time with my horse, Ax, and my dog, Morgan! I spent some time in the saddle, and I also took Morgan for a hike with my friend Kara and her foxhound mix, Sadie.” – Emily, Accounting

“This weekend kicked off in the best way possible—I tried a new horse for lease! She’s a green OTTB mare named Devon, and she’s coming along in Beginner Novice/Novice eventing. We clashed a little at first, but once I understood the ride she wanted, we really hit it off. Figuring a new horse out is one of my favorite things, and I haven’t gotten to do it since college, so that was a total blast. Next up was a series of fun Thanksgiving get-togethers, including a visit from my mom and sister from NY—so fun! Last but not least, my weekend was full of three really great runs, including one out on the (very windy) jetty in Plymouth Harbor Saturday morning. I had to take a little time off running recently, so it was really great to get back out there!” – Sarah, Marketing

“Took my niece to visit my semi-retired pony on Sunday. It was a cold and windy day so we tried our first bareback ride—so much fun! Had a great time catching up with friends in the area. Great way to end a fun Thanksgiving weekend!” – Jen, Store

“My boyfriend, Pat, and I had a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend! We got to spend some time at my parents’ house and took the dogs for walk in the woods, which left Parker Pie tired for days! I went to work with Pat (who is a farrier) on Saturday and I played around with some hot shoes—I was trying to make a heart out of an old shoe, but I failed miserably! Nonetheless, it was fun to play around!” – Jenifer, Customer Care

“Last weekend, I went to a local one-day horse show to try to get a jump start on qualifying for equitation finals (New England and Mass). I took my new partner in crime, Cooper, and he was a superstar! We qualified by winning both classes—good boy Super Cooper! I spent Thanksgiving with my family and my husband’s family. Yes, that means eating two Thanksgiving meals! Also along for the joyride was Annie, who works in the Marketing department. She fit right in with my crazy family, and I managed to catch her wearing the turkey centerpiece as a hat.” – Renee, Merchandising

“This Thanksgiving was spent at my parents small backyard farm in Plymouth. We had plenty to eat and plenty of chores to do after the feast! My 2 ½-year-old daughter, Natalie, stayed busy and made sure to give the ponies some chopped carrots for a special treat!” – Lauren, Customer Care

“I went on a Turkey “Trot” (read Turkey “Canter”) on Thanksgiving with some Paso Fino and Icelandic friends. Luckily, my Arabian loves to run so she kept up just fine. Here we are out on the cranberry bogs!”
– Elizabeth, Customer Care

“We had a very busy weekend. Saturday, I went to the barn and rode three horses. It was great to be in the saddle for a few hours and enjoy some time outside. Saturday night, we decorated our Christmas tree. We normally don’t decorate for Christmas this early, but my fiancé will be away for Christmas this year, so we will celebrate a little early. I was excited to see what our puppy would think of the tree since it’s his first Christmas. So far, he doesn’t seem to care too much about it.” – Katlyn, Web Marketing

“My husband and I weren’t able to make it home to the Northeast for Thanksgiving, so we had our own unique Thanksgiving on Miami Beach. We walked around and ate a fantastic meal at one of the local restaurants. It was a bit of a splurge, but a lot of fun, and our Beach Thanksgiving is something we’ll talk about for years!”

– Jen, Customer Care

“This weekend I traveled to NJ to visit with my family and enjoy Thanksgiving. In preparation for our feast, I ran a 5K Thanksgiving morning with my boyfriend and fellow SmartPaker Kaitlyn. In addition to burning some calories, this race also supported the local food pantry, which is great. After Thanksgiving, I also took my dog, Chloe, hiking—here’s a picture of us at an overlook. It was a great weekend spent with my family and friends!”
– Kerri, Marketing

“This weekend, my family and I went to New York City to celebrate Thanksgiving with our extended family. We had dinner at our cousins’ apartment in Brooklyn, with amazing views of the city across the river. We then spent the night at our family friend’s apartment in midtown Manhattan. The apartment had a roof top with killer views of the city and especially the Empire State Building, which seemed to be right next door! We spent the next day at the Museum of Natural History and shopping downtown in Soho. It was a great weekend with great weather!”
