Keeping up with the SmartPakers: Weekend Update – December 28, 2012

During the week, you know our life is no mystery: we are here working hard to make you happier and your horse healthier. But what do we do on the weekend, you ask? The mystery is finally revealed! Read about what SmartPakers did this past weekend and see if any of our adventures sound similar to yours…

“I spent Christmas at my parent’s house in Vermont. It was great to see family and friends for the Holiday. I actually extended my stay for a few days unexpectedly due to the nor’easter that came through on Thursday. We received about 14 inches total. Welcome winter!” – Ashley, Customer Care

“I had a lovely holiday this year. First, I had a Christmas party at my house, which gave me an opportunity to share my favorite part of the holidays with all my friends: food! Kristin from Creative and Jess from Customer Care (who are also in the picture) can attest to the fact that I cooked up a veritable feast. In addition to all that eating and merriment, I got to spend some quality time snuggling my horse, and I surprised her with her favorite treat: candy canes! I was also excited to finally be able to give my friend Jen her gift: a painting of her horse, Keeper. I’m an amateur painter, to say the least, but I worked hard on it, and I think (I hope?) that she liked it a lot. It was definitely a great holiday, with exactly the right ratios of friends, family, fudge, and ponies.”
– Emily, Accounting

“I’ve been in the prolonged process of buying a house and moved in just a few days before Christmas, so didn’t have time for much decorating. I got creative though and did a little decorating on the weird stairs-to-the-attic-in-the-middle-of-the-livingroom. :)” – Laura, Customer Care

“We celebrated our first Christmas with our rescue dog Finn. He was smothered with gifts and two of his favorites were his Cozy Cave dog bed and his Fox “no stuffing” toy. Everyone says he looks like a fox so we thought it was cute my husband’s parents got him one as a toy. We braved the cold temperatures to take him for a walk along the Cape Cod Canal and he was fascinated by the barge being pushed through. He sat intently and watched until we got too cold and had to give him a nudge to keep moving!” – Cathleen, Web Marketing

“Erica, Kaitlyn, and I celebrated our Christmas early down in New York City. We spent the day in the city walking around, looking at the decorations, and all of the window displays. My favorite part was ice skating at Central Park. One thing scratched off my bucket list!” – Courtney, Customer Care

“One of my favorite Christmas memories is the year my parents gave me my first horse as a Christmas present. I was 11 years old at the time, and completely horse crazy. My parents knew nothing about horses, except how much I loved them! Nevertheless they purchased my new best friend, Riker, and my lifelong obsession with horses began. I still have Riker in my life, 16 Christmases later, and I am grateful for that every day! Here’s a photo of us that first Christmas (about to embark on our 1st ride together) and then again 15 years later :).
– Kerri, Marketing

“This Christmas was the best Christmas ever – we got engaged Christmas morning! The rest of the day was spent with family. Even the dogs were in the Christmas mood playing with their new toys.”
– Carolyn & Adam, Production

“Look closely at this picture. There is, in fact, a feline in that tree. My sister’s 4-month-old kitten, Frankie, experienced his first Christmas this past week and was thrilled to climb in the tree as much as he could. I spent the holiday in Pennsylvania, and life is never dull with our herd of dogs and cats. Also got to see my wonderful furry horse and spend some time at the barn in the snow flurries.” – Delia, Customer Care

“When I was a little girl, my grandfather made me a wooden rocking horse. He carved it and painted it himself and attached little leather ears to it. I would put on my cowboy hat and boots and ride on that rocking horse for hours. I hadn’t seen the rocking horse in at least 20 years, maybe more, and I assumed that it had gotten left behind or thrown away in a move.

I am expecting a little one of my own in a few weeks and to my surprise, my aunt had cleaned up my old rocking horse and gave it to me at Christmas! I thought it was such a special gift to be able to pass down to my child. I took my 9 month old nephew for a little ride on the horse too!” – Jenny, Customer Care

“The holidays are the best time to be with family, two and four legged! Best wishes to all in the new year!”
– Meghan, Marketing

“One of my favorite new traditions is coming up with a bigger and better Christmas photo each year that involves as many of the animals as possible. This year, we managed to get everyone in the same “photo” (with a little help from Photoshop). The cats of course remain the LEAST cooperative but fortunately guinea pigs are excellent subjects if you plop a carrot in front of them!” – Elizabeth, Customer Care

“Best Christmas ever… My boyfriend proposed! I couldn’t be more happy and excited. I want to scream I’M ENGAGED every 5 minutes!” – Veronica, Customer Care

“Tasha and I ventured home to snowy Upstate New York this past week for Christmas. Tasha wasn’t sure what to make of her first snowfall, but ended up having a blast chasing snow balls! It was great to get to see all my friends and family again and we all enjoyed some picture perfect weather on a sleigh ride. I enjoyed getting to eat some of the famous local foods again and seeing how much they city has changed in the past yet, including the grand opening of my Dad’s distillery, Adirondack Distilling Company. However, the holidays had a gloomy end for Tasha at least. She was spayed when we got back home and has been pouting about having to wear the cone and not being allowed to run like a wild child.” – Elizabeth, Customer Care

“My horse Erik decided to give himself a present this year. My barn manager sent me this Christmas Eve photo of Erik’s “new window”. Daisy, Jackson and I spent our Christmas in NYC. Here we are at the monument Cleopatra’s Needle in Central Park.” – Annie, Marketing

Apparently I've been obsessed with horses since I was born, and I used to beg for pony rides on a regular basis. I started showing in 4-H, progressed to equitation and jumpers in high school and rode on the IHSA team in college where I also discovered the joys...
