It’s funny being in the catalog business—when everyone is just wrapping up Christmas, we’re already thinking spring! So, at the end of December, all of our exciting new products (including some awesome, brand new Rockin’ SP Fly sheets) made their way down to sunny Ocala, FL, for our spring photo shoot.
The entire photo shoot crew (which included Becki, VP Western Marketing; Kaitlyn, Western Marketing; Roni, Merchandising; Carrie, Graphic Designer; Adam, Photographer; and myself, Photo Production) arrived in Orlando all giddy to be in sunshine instead of cold, snowy Massachusetts. With a little over an hour drive up to Ocala, our car full of horse-crazy ladies (and Adam!) were antsy to check out the farm that we were going to be shooting at. We knew we’d entered horse country when the miles of fences and rolling fields arrived. Horses grazing beneath the large oaks adorned with Spanish moss. This must be heaven, right?!
As we arrived at our destination, Dave Davis Quarter Horses, the excitement sank in. Several adorable, young Quarter Horses instantly greeted us as we drove between fence lines up to the barn. As we got to the barn, Dave (the owner and trainer at Dave Davis Quarter Horses) arrived to show us where we could call “home” for the next two days.
We started to unpack all of the apparel, fly sheets, and grooming supplies to set up for the following day. Dave introduced us to Boss, a.k.a. You The Boss, who was going to be one of our horse models for the weekend. Bred and trained by Dave, this handsome three-year-old bay with manners every horse owner dreams of stood in front of us. Dave assured us he’d be a perfect gentleman and that Boss was very excited to soon become a star!
As we wrapped up day one, we headed out to get some rest for the next two days. With an 8:00 a.m. call time, everyone arrived back at the barn the following morning to meet up with our three (human) models, Katie, Kayla, and Cole, and their makeup/hair stylist, Rachel. The day ran smoothly as we saw new jeans by Cruel Girl, tops by Ariat, and some awesome belts by Nocona. Boss made his debut rocking some new must-have trail gear and our very own Rockin’ SP headstall and reins.
Rested and refreshed, we arrived once again at 8:00 a.m. the following morning for our final day of shooting. This time our only models were horses (our favorite kind!!!). In came Walker, a.k.a. Winkin At The Girls, a handsome gelding that was brought over from Dave’s good friends at Final Four Performance Horses in Fairfield, FL. We also had the pleasure of working with a young filly from Wayne and Judy Davis Quarter Horses. The most exciting products of the day had to be the brand new Rockin’ SP Quarter Horse Cut Fly Sheets! With fantastic sheet options at two different price points as well as fly boots and a mask to match, these sheets are sure to be a hit this spring!
The photo shoot was a huge success! As we packed up and said our goodbyes to Dave and the horses, we were all a bit sad to be leaving sunny Ocala. Our visit to Dave’s barn couldn’t have been better! I’m quite positive we had the best crew from Kaitlyn taking care of all the grooming, to Roni fitting and styling the models, to Carrie making sure the images worked with the catalog design. A huge “thank you” to Dave Davis for having us at his facility!
