There are some people who acquire horses the traditional way: by shopping for them. I seem to prefer letting them fall into my lap, which is how I got my second horse, Razz. Though he’d spent a successful career showing, at age fourteen he found himself bounced around a bit. He also had some mild arthritis in his hock that made him unsuitable for heavy work. I, however, was unable to pass up his gorgeous face and awesome bloodlines, and believed that with good care and patience he’d have many useful years ahead of him.
SmartFlex Senior Pellets
I started Razz on SmartFlex Senior almost as soon as I got him, despite being younger than what I would consider “senior” for an Arabian. I feel good knowing he has extra support targeted for senior joints, as well as antioxidants for immune health. The joint ingredient levels are a good match for his level of work as well, so he can really enjoy his semi-retirement years!
Despite my best efforts to provide consistency in Razz’s routine and diet, I love the peace of mind that comes with giving him SmartDigest Ultra. It’s there to support him through hay changes, crazy New England weather swings, and trailering to the indoor. And now, no matter how old he gets, he’ll be covered by ColiCare, SmartPak’s $7,500 colic surgery reimbursement program.
SmartCalm Ultra Pellets
Much to the entertainment of my fellow boarders, Razz has a big Arabian personality. He likes his routine, his people (which luckily includes me), and his pasture-mates. Anything else gets a good snort at minimum. I put him on SmartCalm Ultra when he arrived to help him settle in and went back to it when we started riding again. It really helps him stay calm when riding in scary corners and aids in keeping him relaxed without being dull.
