Horse on SmartPaks: Charmer, 7-year-old Thoroughbred
I started riding when I was 9 years old, at a local barn that was offering an introductory program at a discounted rate. My parents thought that it would probably end up being a passing phase, like many other sports that I was a part of, but (unfortunately for their wallets) I fell in love and never turned back. I am forever grateful to my first barn, and to my parents for giving me an opportunity to take a distant admiration of horses and turn it into a devoted passion.
Since then, horses have always been the one thing that is always there for me, no matter what is going on in the rest of my life. Being with my horse is my happy place. It is the one place in the world that I always feel safe. Everything I do comes down to my horse. I go to work so that I can afford him, and anything that he wants. I plan my schedule around being able to make it out to the barn, even if it is just for 10 minutes, to give him a carrot and a kiss.
Over all these years, my happiest memory with a horse would have to be October 26th, 2015. It was my first ride back on a horse after breaking my pelvis six weeks earlier. I climbed on my 5-year-old OTTB, Charmer, who had only been off the track for about four months, and only had seven rides put on him post-track before I was hurt, and I had the best ride of my life. I walked, trotted and cantered my young Thoroughbred around. I trotted with no hands. I cried of happiness that day. Charmer was incredibly patient and kind to me with my poor balance, uncontrollable left leg, and severe muscle loss. He was gentle and gracious to me in the time when I needed him most. I don’t think any day will be able to top that one as my happiest memory with a horse.
Because of all the ways that horses have made my life better, I’m committed to making sure my horses’ lives are the best they can be. And part of that means making sure they have the right supplements.
I first started feeding supplements when I got my first horse. He was an older thoroughbred, and my vet had suggested putting him on some weight and joint supplements to help him out.
After those initial supplements, I decided to delve a little more into the research of supplements and which ones had the coverage that would best help my horse, and therefore give me peace of mind. That is how I found out about SmartPak. Through my research, I had found their supplements, and in turn their website. After looking through their website, it was not a difficult decision to switch to SmartPaks for my horse.
I made the switch to using the SmartPaks feeding system a year and a half ago, and I never looked back. I love the AutoShip feature because I never have to worry that my horse is going to run out of his supplements for any period of time. Plus, if I want to make changes to my horse’s supplements, it’s an easy and quick process that takes just a couple of minutes. Everything about SmartPak, whether it’s the SmartPaks feeding system, navigating the website, or talking to the Customer Care Team is always really simple and straightforward, and I find the answers to my questions in no time at all. SmartPak is always my go to company for anything related to my horse.
