Dog of the Month: Cali

By now, you’ve probably heard that one of the many perks about working for SmartPak is that we have a dog-friendly office (pretty cool, right?). While you might think that this would make for a loud and stressful work environment, our canine SmartPakers are just as remarkable as our human employees! They all play an important role around the office, and each of them has a distinct personality that makes them a delight to share our work space with. We know that horse people and dog people are often one in the same, so we thought it would be cool to share some of our SmartPak pups with you!

This month we’re featuring Cali, the boisterious Portuguese Water Dog that comes to work with SmartPaker Whitney!

Whitney as a SmartPaker:
I’m on the SmartBarn Services Team at SmartPak, which means I help support barns professionals and their clients. I spend a lot of my time calling, texting and emailing with barns across the country with everything SmartPak related. When I am not in the office you might find me traveling to trade shows to represent SmartPak. I’m lucky enough to say that my job is so great that work doesn’t usually feel like work!

Cali as a SmartPaker
Cali is one of my three Portuguese Water Dogs, I also have her Mom, Abby (you may remember her from Workin’ Like a Dog) and her Auntie, Zoe. Cali is my youngest and most boisterous of my 3 PWDs, and she’s always keeping me on my toes.

When Cali is not at home or enjoying the beaches of Cape Cod where we live, she can often be found in the conformation ring at dog shows. In the show ring people know her as GCHB CH Dandelion’s Hooray For Hollywood CGC (it’s a mouthful, I know!). She is an AKC Bronze Grand Champion and has her Canine Good Citizen title as well. She is the class clown of my crew, so there is never a dull moment when Cali Bear (as we affectionately call her) is around.

At work, I have a strict three dog rotation that I follow so there is never any question of who is coming to the office on what day. However, I’m sad to say my three haven’t quite figured that out yet, so they always look at me longingly when I am getting ready to head out the door. When it is Cali’s turn she flies out the door and runs to the car waiting eagerly. Once on the road she settles down until we get to the Starbucks drive through line where she must pop her head out and wait for her much anticipated pupaccino.

Once we get to the SmartPak office, she can most often be found acting as the official upstairs greeter because our desk is in the perfect spot for those “official” duties. One of her favorite things to do (just like her mom and sister) is sit in my office chair when I am not at my desk. She cracks people up with her expression and dedication to sitting in the chair. We usually go for a walk at lunch, which is an excellent break in the middle of the day but also exhausting so that is generally followed up by an afternoon of naps.

Cali’s Best Friend
Cali has a couple of close friends at SmartPak. First is her sister and littermate Maisy, who is owned by our Director of Ecommerce and is lucky enough to come to work every day, too! Maisy has some of the same antics that Cali does, so they are just two peas in a pod. We are so fortunate to get to have another of Abby’s puppies close by who we get to see all the time.

Another one of Cali’s closest friends at SmartPak is Anna. Anna is a mixed breed rescue who generally goes for walks with us at lunchtime. Cali is Anna’s favorite of my three PWDs – she always seems to get an extra pep in her step during the walk and tries to convince Cali to play for most of it. Cali’s other BFF is Freyja, a young German Short Haired Pointer. They have the same energy level (which is hard to find), so the two of them play really well together. Cali especially likes when Freyja stops by for some treats (usually because that means she gets treats too).

Cali’s Favorite Products
LiveSmart™ Chicken Meal and Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula
All three of my dogs are super picky eaters, I fed them food after food and nothing really was too successful until I started feeding them LiveSmart Chicken Meal and Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula. Everyone eats this food with no worries and our vet consistently comments on how healthy my dogs are both on the inside and out. We have this on auto ship so I never have to worry about running out or making unnecessary trips to the pet store.

SmartCanine™ OmegaMax
Cali is a show dog and we always want her to look her best, and that’s why we give her SmartCanine™ OmegaMax. It provides a comprehensive source of omega fatty acids from flax seed oil and fish oil to support skin and coat health. Her black coat is always gleaming and she’s show-ring-ready at the drop of a hat!

Whimzees Dental Chews
These have proven to be an excellent addition to our regimen. Whimzees have limited natural ingredients and no artificial ingredients, colors, flavors, preservatives, GMO’s, glutens, or meat. They are also high in fiber and low in sugar. They come in unique shapes like alligators and toothbrushes which help to promote proper blood flow through the gums, prevent bad breath, and the build-up of tartar. One of the things a judge will look at is a dog’s teeth, so Cali can’t have any tarter build up and Whimzees have made my life easier in the dental department.

Warhorse Pet Shampoo & Conditioner – Lemon Lavender
Are you noticing a trend? All of our favorite products help Cali look and feel her best! I love this innovative shampoo/conditioner because her coat turns out clean and shiny. Despite the fact that Cali’s a PWD, she doesn’t LOVE bath time, so this double-duty shampoo and conditioner makes bath time short and sweet. It has so many good features and makes her coat gleam!

Mount Everlasting Himalayan Dog Chew
This is another favorite of Cali’s (and mine) because it keeps her occupied and out of trouble while I am off at meetings or running around the office. When Cali is bored she makes up her own activities (like climbing over the cube walls to visit neighbors), so this helps to keep her mind and body occupied. This long-lasting treat is made using traditional methods with natural ingredients and no preservatives, so I feel good about giving this to Cali when I need to step away!
