With fall and winter approaching, when is the right time to transition your horse slowly to their winter grain amounts
What can you do to help a histamine reactive mare? Bug bites and I believe certain weeds cause hives. This year they were so bad the vet gave her a shot of dex and had to do a follow up of powdered dex to get it under control.
My TB mare gets hives every year. Last year was very bad and 2 other horses in the barn had hives as well. It’s impossible to find or eliminate all causes. After talking to my vet we decided to try Zyrtec. 10 tablets once or twice a day. It may not completely eliminate them but my mare only has a few on one side this year and I have not had to give her any dex this year at all. The other 2 horses have no hives at all. I have not seen any side effects.
My horse has been shaking head whenever I ride him the last few days. I have checked his ears and everything around his face and I haven’t seen anything obvious. Do you have any suggestions to what might be causing him to do that?
My 22-year-old gelding has recently been diagnosed with cataracts. He’s still able to see seemingly fine; no issues while riding or with him getting around in his field. Are cataracts common with senior horses, and what things do I need to take into consideration as he gets older (e.g., safety while riding, turnout). Thank you for the fun and educational videos!
What causes a horse to be spookey one day and totally calm and great to ride the next feeling frustrated.
My horse just had surgery for multiple enteroliths found by xray.We have switched him from alfalfa to grass hay, but we are unsure of how to meet his vitamin/mineral needs. Should we use a hay balancer or multi supplement? He is on stall rest for a month, and he is a high energy, nervous paint. He is 14 years old.
What exactly is Depo? How does it affect horse health? What are the risks and benefits of using it ? Do you recommend it ?
Is there such thing as too much grass hay? I currently feed Orchard and that’s with a cup of rice bran for my horses supplements! They look great but they get 4 flakes a day to maintain their weight.
For people who need to be prepared to evacuate due to natural disaster, fire flood etc., what would you suggest having packed in the trailer at a moments notice?
