Party in the USA (House)

partyintheUSA

So, Sarah and I have officially been here a week. It frankly feels like a month with all of the experiences that we’ve had and the fact that one day just seems to roll into the next. We’ve been loving

Pak Across the Pond – Day 7

Day-7-thumb

Horse Water Ballet Colby: So, shifting gears (and equestrian pursuits), today the Olympic Grand Prix dressage competition got underway in Greenwich. And we kicked the day off with a proper celebration: Sarah wore the human-sized foam finger outfit (yes, that’s

Witnessing History

Germany wins Gold

It had all come down to this – Day 4 of Olympic eventing competition – show jumping. Over the first three days, the horses and riders had been put through the paces in the dressage ring and out on the demanding cross country course. 15 riders had been eliminated on cross country day, and the remaining 53 horses and riders now had the chance to jump their way to team and individual medals…

Olympic Equestrian 101

Logo-with-rings-and-flags-t

I’ve had a lot of people (both non-riders and riders who aren’t familiar with every discipline) ask me why dressage happens twice, or if the equestrian events are over for the Olympics, since we’ve already seen dressage, cross country and show jumping. I can certainly understand the confusion, since there are a lot of shared names…

Pak Across the Pond – Day 5

Day-5-thumb

I can’t believe it’s really and truly over. Eventing is done, the horses are already packed and out of the venue. While I’m beyond sad to see the eventers go, I do have some great news – Team USA Dressage had their first official jog this afternoon and Team USA Show Jumping has officially arrived…

Pak Across the Pond – Day 4

Day-4-thumb

“Wow! I knew going in that cross country day would be thrilling, but I have to say it again – WOW! There were so many highs and lows, both emotionally and in terms of the ridiculously hilly course…”

Pak Across the Pond – Day 3

Day-3-thumb

“Today started off positively royally, and I mean that in the literal sense. When Colby and I stepped out of the USEF/USET House, we noticed the heightened security immediately. Yesterday there was plenty of bag-checking, ticket-inspecting and metal-dectating to go around, but today there were cops on motorbikes littered around one of the side entrances to the park…”

We truly could not have asked for more perfect weather to start off the games. A brilliantly sunny day with enough breeze to keep us comfy, even in the packed stadium seating.

Pak Across the Pond – Day 1

day1-thumb

“It’s after midnight local time, so technically I’m already a day late with this blog, which is just embarrassing, because it’s only our first day! But today technically started at 7 PM in Boston last night, which was almost literally 24 hours ago, and I only caught a cat nap on the plane, so I think I might let myself off the hook just this once…”

Apparently I've been obsessed with horses since I was born, and I used to beg for pony rides on a regular basis. I started showing in 4-H, progressed to equitation and jumpers in high school and rode on the IHSA team in college where I also discovered the joys...
