“Fellow SmartPaker, Michelle, and I took our horses out to our favorite haunt at Borderland State Park – first time since the Fall! Both horses pretended they had never seen the same old bridge before, but we made it out and back in one piece. Can’t wait for more warm weather and trails!” – Elizabeth, Customer Care

“Hale has been on stall rest but we spent some time hand walking out in the sun this weekend! We still have a long road to recovery ahead of us but the extra grooming and bonding has been wonderful. He is being a very good patient but stall time is hard and I’m perfecting the art of keeping a bored draft horse entertained! So far his favorite thing is treat feeding time while I’m cold hosing and wrapping his legs :)” – Martha, Customer Care

“Last weekend, I went to visit my good friend Kelsey in North Carolina. We did a ton of riding (I jumped for the first time in over a year) and went to the Southern Pines Horse Trails! The bravery of both the horses and riders on the cross country course never ceases to amaze me. This weekend, I went home to New Jersey for Easter. It was so great to see family, friends, and my dog Bentley!” – Katlyn, Marketing

“This weekend I took my dog, Morgan, for a short hike around the lake near my house. I also celebrated Easter with my family, and my cousins and I sipped ‘Peeptinis’ while the kids hunted for Easter eggs. Afterwards, I played with my pony, and she had a case of what I like to call “the spring sillies”—she was bucking and rearing at the end of the lunge line! My typically trusty mare goes through a couple weeks of not-acting-her-age each year at the end of winter, and I guess this year is no exception! I did ride after lunging, and it was mostly without incident, which was very generous of her.” – Emily, Accounting

“What a great weekend! In addition to spending a nice Easter with my husband, I was able to spend some time at the barn, and walking my dog, Rose, in the (very warm) Florida sunshine. I had a great lesson with Rohan on Satruday, and got to spend some quiet time at the barn on Sunday as well. Rohan is my friend and instructor’s horse, and he’s definitely teaching me a lot! Plus, he’s just as sweet as he looks in his picture. :)” – Jennifer, Customer Care

“On November 1, 2002, my mom and I adopted a darling black Lab mix from Puerto Rico, originally called Negri. We changed her name to Lola, and in August of 2003 we were fortunate enough to meet her rescuer, flown up from Puerto Rico by the shelter she was in here in Massachusetts. Easter Sunday 2013, I got to reconnect with Aidita, almost 10 years later! It was a complete surprise, partially fabricated by my dad. We talked for three hours (THREE!) about the rescue program, and how Lola is doing now as a 14 year old senior lady! I was also able to learn things about Lola’s past that we weren’t told when we first adopted her, and how we truly saved her life. Luckily for us, Aidita now lives in New York, and we’re hoping to reunite her and Lola super soon; I’m so lucky and blessed to have made a lifelong friend, and will ABSOLUTELY adopt another dog from Puerto Rico again!” – Kristin, Creative

“Wow, what a weekend! I went home to Pennsylvania for an extended Easter weekend, and it was great to be home and see my family, and they were happy to see me, too (dogs included!). And after a long, snowy winter, I finally got back in the saddle! I took advantage of the beautiful, 60-and-sunny weather on Saturday and got a riding lesson from my old trainer on one of her new training horses, a four-year-old Clydesdale cross named Rory. To make a long story short, I’m IN LOVE! We were instant friends, and he has a heart of gold (and so comfortable to ride!). Aside from having to really remember to steer (he’s still working on that) you’d never know he was only four, and he was a perfect gentleman. We had a great lesson, and I’m already planning my next trip home so I can see his adorable face. But can you blame me?” – Lindsay, Creative

“This weekend I was able to spend some time with my muddy horse Bug on Friday night. Saturday morning I headed back home to CT to visit my family and help prepare for Easter. On Sunday we had a holiday brunch with my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles! It was a wonderful weekend!” – Marisa, Customer Care

“I just enjoyed a three day weekend back home in CT for the Easter holiday. It’s always nice to relax at home, see friends and family, and eat lots of great food (and candy)! My parent’s dogs were thrilled to be the Easter bunnies this year as you can tell by the looks on their faces, but they did get their own Easter basket in return! I always look forward to our annual Easter Egg Hunt despite the youngest of us being 19 years old these days. :)” – Paige, Customer Care

“I recently went to visit my friend Caitlin in Connecticut for a very horse-filled weekend! Saturday and Sunday had us at Horseshoe Hill Equestrian Center in Durham grooming, riding, and spoiling her four adorable horses, Celtic, Cal, Benjamin, and Bearcat. I also had a chance to hop on her friend’s enormous hunter/jumper, Cliff, for a bit who made me feel like an Olympic rider with his push-button lead changes! Caitlin’s dog, Finnegan, also joined in the fun and spent his weekend monitoring the barn for any dropped treats or cookies. I was definitely wiped out on Monday morning from all the riding, but it was absolutely worth it!” – Megan, Customer Care

“I went to my first one-day horse show of the year with my horse Cooper. It was great to get the first show under our belt and also to know what we needed to work on before our next show this coming weekend. Cooper was a good boy and we even came home with a blue ribbon! The other first, was that it was the first time I got to wear my new RJ Classics Washington Xtreme Soft Shell Show Coat.

This is the most comfortable and stylish coat I’ve ever owned. It is incredibly stretchy, breathable and flattering. The lightweight fabric is impeccably tailored and looks as good on as a fine Italian suit jacket. The hidden zipper is really neat because the buttons don’t gap and it provides a more slimming look. I’m slightly (ok, completely!) obsessed.”

“On Saturday I was up as soon as the sun came up to go for my first real Spring ride on my horse. The cold winter weather finally broke and I hit the trails with my gelding, Rocki. In addition to getting my horse fix in, I also had the chance to start on my newly found passion for gardening. My husband and I spent Saturday afternoon tilling the garden to get it ready to plant (OK, he actually did the tilling but I was a good supervisor :) ). In 2-3 months I will be a vegetable canning machine!” – Ashley, Customer Care

“My weekend was GREAT! I spent this weekend in New Jersey. Saturday was a very big day so of course I started it off right with the world’s best breakfast sandwich (Taylor ham and cheese on a New Jersey bagel!). After that, SmartPaker Kaitlyn and I went to pick up my new car at the dealership. It was bitter-sweet trading in my Toyota Corolla that toted me around for the last few years, but it was about time! Apparently it’s an Italian tradition to throw change in the car for good luck. Have you ever heard of that?! Anyway, now I have a bunch of coins scattered all over the place that can only be used in dire emergency. That night we went to an Armin van Buuren concert at Madison Square Garden which was also a new experience for me. Sunday was filled with family, friends, and food making it a great ending to the weekend.” – Courtney, Customer Care

“This weekend, marked my first Easter celebration in Massachusetts. I lucked out and got to spend it with my awesome new roommates. We went to their family farm where we walked through the woods and saw some adorable goats. Later in the day, I made a strawberry cake and some other delicious things for dinner. And to top it off my boyfriend sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers, too! The only thing missing was going for a ride.” – Jessica, Customer Care

“I spent Easter Weekend visiting with family up in Vermont, and we went out to my relatives’ sugarhouse (where maple syrup is made)! I used to venture out every year when I was a kid, but haven’t been able to time it right the past few Springs, so spending time there over the weekend brought back a lot of great memories. There’s nothing like visiting with family while sampling warm, fresh maple syrup!” – Carrie, Creative

I went for an Easter Sunday trail ride with my BFF, Helen. She on her Irish sport horse, Jakers, and me, on my TB, Calvin. We shared the trails at Blydenburg Park, with hikers, dog walkers and fellow equestrians. We returned to our trailers after a glorious two hours of traversing wooden bridges, climbing gentle hills and viewing the water fowl swimming in the lake. We rewarded our buds with grazing in the field before loading up and returning home to a holiday feast.

Seeing photos of how some of you spent your holiday weekend is a nice personal touch. Thank you all for all that you do.

Apparently I've been obsessed with horses since I was born, and I used to beg for pony rides on a regular basis. I started showing in 4-H, progressed to equitation and jumpers in high school and rode on the IHSA team in college where I also discovered the joys...
