2013 Adequan Select World Championship Show Recap

Kristen and Mocha AQHA

SmartPaker Val and I closed out the month of August in Amarillo, Texas, where we attended the AQHA 2013 Adequan Select World Championship Show. Having grown up as a hunter/jumper turned event rider, you can imagine how excited I was to be able to spend time at one of the premier events for American Quarter Horse exhibitors. This show is one of a kind, as it’s the world’s largest, single-breed horse show open exclusively to exhibitors ages 50 and over. Exhibitors competed throughout the year to qualify their horses in a wide variety of events including but certainly not limited to halter, cutting, reining, barrel racing, driving, huntseat equitation, jumping and my personal favorite, ranch pleasure. We met with exhibitors from all over the United States AND Canada who were vying for a chance at becoming World Champions in their events.

The week was jam-packed educational events like the Ride the Rail/Ride the Pattern where professionals demonstrate how they would approach patterns and classes, parties, and receptions. We even had the opportunity to attend the Hall of Fame Party, which was held at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.

Our booth was located right at the arena entrance, which allowed us to sneak peeks at the classes AND get in on all the “behind the scenes” action. We had great conversations with long time and new SmartPak customers and even got to visit with their horses and canine companions. It was a great week. I’m absolutely impressed at how versatile American Quarter Horses are. Congratulations to all of the World Show Qualifiers!
