If you love the sport of Reining, there is no better place to be during the first week of December than the National Reining Horse Futurity in Oklahoma City, OK. The chance to see the top riders in the industry compete on some of the most beautiful and athletic horses in the world is second to none, which is why the Futurity is my favorite show of the year. Along with SmartPakers Lissa, Becki, and Carolyn, I packed my bags and headed out to Oklahoma as soon as I finished my Thanksgiving dinner! My favorite part of being at the Futurity is the opportunity to spend time catching up with Team SmartPak riders Tim McQuay, Tom McCutcheon, and Matt Mills (and their families). Since they reside in Texas and Arizona, we don’t get to see them often. This year, all of our Team SmartPak riders rode very well and I’m excited to be able to share some of the highlights from their rides!
Other awesome things that happened during the Futurity this year:
- We hosted the ColiCare County Fair complete with Rockin’ SP Raffle Prizes, John Deere Gator Races and delicious fair food (I tried chocolate covered bacon for the first time).
- Mandy McCutcheon won the Non Pro Futurity on Ms Whiz Dunit!
- It snowed A LOT. Luckily, we are used to the snow up in New England!
Overall, we had another great year at the Futurity and I already can’t wait for next year!
