Why We Love Turmeric

You may have noticed that SmartPak has recently introduced several new equine supplements featuring the herb turmeric. There’s no doubt about it – when it comes to supporting horses’ health, we’re crazy for this glorious, golden ingredient!

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a plant in the ginger family that has been used to flavor food, add color, and provide health benefits for thousands of years. Its main active substance, curcumin, has been found to have benefits in many areas including joints, the respiratory system, the immune system, and the gastrointestinal tract. In addition to turmeric’s ability to support cellular health via its potent antioxidant properties, turmeric is probably most valued for supporting a normal response to inflammation.

Due to the breadth of turmeric’s benefits, we have incorporated the herb into a variety of supplements. Best of all, horses LOVE the taste of turmeric, so palatability is not an issue.
