Chasteberry (Vitex agnus castus), also known as Monk’s Pepper, is an extremely helpful herb when it comes to equine health. This plant, which comes from the Mediterranean region, is valued for its ability to help maintain hormonal balance. In terms of horses, it is probably most known for its benefits to horses with pituitary challenges, especially seniors who don’t shed normally. Many horse owners swear by chasteberry for the visible coat benefits they’ve noticed in their horses when supplementing with this herb. Of course, it’s important to work with your veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment of a pituitary/endocrine disorder.
In addition, chasteberry can be helpful for moody mares, and geldings that tend to act “stud-y”. If you and your veterinarian feel that chasteberry is a good option for your horse, whatever his or her needs are, below are all the various product options available from SmartPak!
