Is there a way to prevent EPM? #AsktheVetVideo
Hi,this neurological disease is caused from contaminated food or water. Whatever the critter is that carries the organism spreads it. That’s why you need to keep your horse’s feed containers closed.
During monsoon season in Arizona, what is a good way to keep the horse’s hooves dry?
#AsktheVetVideo
Hi, I have same problem were I live. My horse when I first bought her started getting soft hooves. I found out she had thrush before I bought her and got it again. What I did is find a good hoof supplement with the most biotin in it. It helps harden the hoof. Get a lanolin hoof cream you can put on hoof in dry weather to moisturize. I also take betadine and a tooth brush to apply around after I picked hoof every so often. Do regular hoof trim. Pick hooves clean before and after every ride and whenever you visit her at stable. Keep stall clean and dry as much as possible. Hope this helped.
Are Duplo Composite Horseshoes good for horses that have arthritis and are they more natural for the hooves than regular shoes?
#AsktheVetVideo
Hi, I am not a farrier. It’s best to ask the one you use. The little I know of this shoe is the composite cushions the inner hoof. You can use a special glue instead of nails to put them on. They are used for horses with laminitis or other lameness. Or they make standard shoes. There are I think couple companies making them. I’m not up on how new the technology is or when it was developed. You probably could call the company itself and ask them what else you need to know of this shoe.
Is vitamin E and selenium in alfalfa hay?

When is using boots for the horse beneficial? (and which types are). And can they do more harm than good in some cases?
I have a concern regarding my 29 yr old TWH. He is in excellent health. This past 15 yrs that I have own him, he is out in pasture during the day and up in his stall at night. However, I have recently moved him to a better boarding facility, but their stalls are small. He is 14.2H and 950 lbs. stall is apprx 8 x 10. Since I have relocated him I have not used the stall. I bought a two car carport for his acre pasture and he has been staying in his pasture. With winter coming on, we live just outside of Atlanta, should I put him up in his stall for 14 hours? A friend told me that horses can stay warm by moving around in their pasture and that putting him up in his stall will just make he very stiff. So my question is: stall or pasture? which would be the best option for him. He has several blankets, a light weight, medium weight and a heavy weight. The heavy weight blanket also has a removable neck wrap. Thanks
I’ve been watching all your video’s for some time now (I LOVE them!), although this is my first question!
Dusty Hay:
What are some side effects (if any) a horse can have from consuming dusty hay?
What can be done to reduce dust in hay? Watering, soaking, etc. and what is the effectiveness of such method?
Thank you!!
Hi,I had to do this for my horse when she ended up with respiratory problems. The heaves. Wetting hay down keeps the dust spores down. Also horses with allergies and several other problems it helps like reducing sugar which can cause laminitis. Helps with digestion for colic or a horse that cannot chew well.
