Day 9 Live from London – Olympic Jumping Day 2 Highlights from the USEFNetwork.com and SmartPak.
I’ve missed you guys so much! It felt really weird not having anyone to chronicle every waking thought to. And after I forgot my phone during Show Jumping Day 2, so I couldn’t tweet, I thought I was going to go into withdrawal. So, long short, I’m glad to be back!
After a day like today, it’s hard to know where to begin. But I guess I’ll stick with the tried and true method and start at the beginning. The beginning of today was actually last night, as I ended last night so far past exhausted that I forgot to set my alarm for the first time since college.
The Pak is across the pond and the action is officially underway in London. In this blog series, SmartPakers Sarah and Colby will be sharing stories about the people they meet while watching the action live in the stands (and on the XC course) in Greenwich.
FACT: You cannot bring anything glass into Greenwich Park, but Foam Finger costumes are a-OK! This one you just have to watch for yourself, but we’ll just say we couldn’t have possibly had more fun handing out Foam Fingers…
Have you heard? Dressage is #1! To spread the word, Sarah and Colby set off across London with Sarah decked out in a life-size foam-finger costume to let everyone know that dressage is indeed #1 – but check out some of the people they meet on their journey!
It had all come down to this – Day 4 of Olympic eventing competition – show jumping. Over the first three days, the horses and riders had been put through the paces in the dressage ring and out on the demanding cross country course. 15 riders had been eliminated on cross country day, and the remaining 53 horses and riders now had the chance to jump their way to team and individual medals…
I’ve had a lot of people (both non-riders and riders who aren’t familiar with every discipline) ask me why dressage happens twice, or if the equestrian events are over for the Olympics, since we’ve already seen dressage, cross country and show jumping. I can certainly understand the confusion, since there are a lot of shared names…

I can’t believe it’s really and truly over. Eventing is done, the horses are already packed and out of the venue. While I’m beyond sad to see the eventers go, I do have some great news – Team USA Dressage had their first official jog this afternoon and Team USA Show Jumping has officially arrived…
It seems the Pak may have gone a bit mad across the pond.
