I’ve been a horse addict for as long as I can remember, beginning with the stuffed horse I had as a four-year-old. I began riding lessons at age eight, taught at summer camp during my teen years, and purchased my first horse shortly after graduating from college. From when I was a teenager to retirement, horses have given welcome structure to my everyday schedule!
Though I’m no longer actively competing, I continue to work on dressage, jumping, and cross country with my horse, Imagine because keeping it fun is important! Imagine, also known as Immi, is an 18-year-old Quarter Horse/Percheron mare who I’ve owned since she was four. She’s your classic opinionated mare but is rarely cranky or unreasonable. She seems to love to do things with her human, which makes me smile.
I first began feeding supplements in 1980 with my very first horse. His grain needs were so small that it seemed wise to add a multi-vitamin supplement to his diet to ensure that his nutritional requirements were being met. I can’t remember how long I’ve been getting my supplements from SmartPak – it seems like I’ve been doing business with SmartPak for ages! Now, all of my horses are on supplements, whether it’s a multi-vitamin or a formula with more targeted support, like SmartPituitary Senior Pellets.
When Imagine’s vet diagnosed her with pituitary issues, I bought SmartPituitary Senior Pellets because the vet agreed that it would be good to try at this stage. Since she’s been on the supplement, she has shed her winter coat beautifully and I’ve been happy with her energy levels. This formula will be in her meals for the foreseeable future!
